Content on the site is added in many languages. So that everyone can read it in English, Russian or Ukrainian, the site translates some texts automatically with AI models (large language models). Nobody checks these translations before they are shown, so a translation can contain mistakes, especially in names.
AI translates the text of quotes, the names and titles of people, the names of groups and organizations, and the titles of events and processes. The interface itself (menus, buttons, settings and these documentation pages) is written by people, see Supported interface languages.
Quotes and the titles of people and events go through the site translation queue, which currently uses Mistral Small 3.2. Names of groups are localized through OpenRouter with Google Gemini 2.5 Flash Lite. The models can change over time, so the model that made a translation is saved with it and shown next to it: for example "[Auto-translated mistral-small-3.2]" before a quote, or "Name translated by …" under a name. Translations made before the site started saving the model say "model unknown".
The original is always kept, and a translation never replaces it. A translated quote has its own page with the original text; signed-in users can also press "See translation request" there to read the exact request sent to the model and its answer. The original spelling of a name stays on the profile titles page.
Until a text is translated, it is shown in its original language with an "[original text]" mark. If you notice a wrong translation, leave a comment on that page.
