Attribute types

What an attribute type is, how its value type works, and how attributes of profiles use it.

An attribute type describes one kind of fact that can be recorded about a profile: for example "Birth date", "Height" or "Supports same-sex marriage". It has a title in English, Russian and Ukrainian, and it records which user created it.

Every attribute type has a value type, shown as "Value type" on its page. It fixes what an answer looks like: a number, an integer range, a percentage, text, yes or no, positive or negative, a date, coordinates, a location, a polygon, a real human, a group of people or a user profile.

An attribute is an attribute type applied to one profile, for example the birth date of one person. Each attribute is a question: users add values to it, each value backed by quotes from source documents, and each value gets a credibility level. The profile shows the most credible value.

An attribute type can be linked to a term, which defines what the attribute means. The page of an attribute type lists the attributes that use it across all profiles. Anyone signed in can create a new attribute type with "Create new attribute type" on the attribute types page.
